UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

You are encouraged to complete the high school core curriculum which consists of the following:

• 4 years English
• 3 years Math
• 3 years Natural Science
• 3 years Social Science
• 2 years Foreign Language

All new freshmen must submit an application for admission, a high school transcript, and ACT or SAT score and a college prep form. Transfer students must submit an application for admission and official transcripts from each college attended.

Effective fall 1994, a conditional/unconditional admissions policy was implemented for entering freshmen. Students planning to major in mechanical polymer engineering will be admitted under one of the following categories.

Direct Admission

Students interested in mechanical polymer engineering will be admitted unconditionally to the University and will be admitted directly to the College of Engineering if they meet certain academic requirements.  These requirements, which have been established by the College of Engineering, can be obtained by calling the Office of Admissions. Students admitted directly will be advised by a faculty member in this college.  Undecided students will be admitted to University College to begin their studies before deciding on a major and will be advised by an academic adviser in the University College.

Unconditional Admission

Students interested in mechanical polymer engineering who do not meet the academic requirements for direct admission but who exceed the requirements for conditional admission will be admitted unconditionally to the University and will begin studies in University College. After certain prerequisites are met, students can apply directly to the College of Engineering. Undecided students will be admitted to University College to begin their studies before deciding on a major and will be advised by an academic adviser in the University College.

Conditional Admission

Students admitted conditionally will be those with less than a 2.30 high school grade point average and lower than a 16 ACT/650 SAT score with or without the core curriculum; or less than a 2.80 high school grade-point average and lower than a 19 ACT/800 SAT score without the core curriculum.  Students admitted with conditions will be required to complete one or more prescriptive activities such as developmental courses, tutoring, learning labs and workshops, and/or summer attendance. After certain prerequisites are met, students can apply directly to the College of Engineering.
