PESO is also the SPE Student Chapter at the University of Akron. Our student chapter has been selected for two prestigious awards by SPE and will be officially receiving these awards in ANTEC 06.

STRETCH Award Achiever

The SPE Student Chapter at the University of Akron has consecutively been receiving the STRETCH award in 2005 and 2006.

The STRETCH award, STudents Reaching Excellence Through CHapters, is designed for Student Chapters to perform a self evaluation of their efforts during the year. Chapters that meet the specified number of criteria receive the award, much like the STAR program for Sections and the PRIDE program for Divisions. SPE recognizes the efforts of the SPE Student Chapter at the University of Akron to effectively manage a Student Chapter of the Society of Plastics Engineers.

SPE / Chase Plastics Student Chapter Award

The SPE Student Chapter at The University of Akron is the recipient of a $2,500 award, sponsored by Chase Plastic Services, Inc. The award will be used to develop the first "Plastics Awareness Day" in the local school district. The event will consist of a polymer science fair for K-12 students and tours of the plastics laboratories at UA, with working displays like the production of samples from injection molding machines that can then be tested at the next stop on the tour. An essay contest will be organized for students, a plastics trivia competition for K-12 students will be held, and presentations by UA students and local industry executives will be made. Increasing student awareness about new technologies, science education, and plastics processing is the goal of the UA Student Chapter.
