Information on the Alumni Reception

The Department of Polymer Engineering will once again host a networking reception for DPE alumni during ANTEC 2009. Light hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be available. The event provides a nice way to wind down the day and renew acquaintances with fellow alumni and faculty. Details are as follows:

Date: Monday, June 22, 2009

Time: Open house style event - stop in any time between 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Location:
The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant, West Room
1401 S. Michigan Ave. (corner of Michigan and 14th Streets)
Chicago, Illinois 60605
The restaurant is a three minute cab ride from McCormick Place.

Parking:
1. Valet parking is available at no charge to you.
2. On street parking (metered).

Information on The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant

The Chicago Firehouse was built in 1905 to serve the upper class families of Chicago's Prairie Avenue community. Scenes from the 1991 movie "Backdraft" starring Robert De Niro and Kurt Russell were filmed on location there. Now a restaurant, many of the architectural features unique to a working firehouse may still be seen throughout this historic building.

Information on ANTEC/NPE 2009

NPE 2009: The International Plastics Showcase will take place June 22-26, 2009 in Chicago at McCormick Place. NPE is so vast that it is only held every three years. According to its website (www.npe.org), "Nearly 2,000 companies will exhibit on 1 million square feet.. more than a third of them coming from outside the United States. Approximately 75,000 plastics professionals from 120 countries are expected to attend." This year, for the very first time, NPE is co-locating simultaneously with a number of technical conferences, including:

• SPE's ANTEC 2009
• Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology (FSCT) Coatings for Plastics Conference
• International Plastics Design Competition
• Moldmaking Expo 2009
• PET Strategies Plus Conference
• Seminario Latino Americano en Espanol
• Business of Plastics
• Time Compression Conference & Expo (TC Expo)

ANTEC is partnering with NPE 2009 to provide over 750 technical presentations and peer-reviewed papers. While NPE 2009 runs a full week, the ANTEC meeting will only be held Monday through Wednesday, June 22-24, 2009.
